problems co-ordinating triplets and quavers

I have difficulties with a 4/4 piece that consists of quavers in the RH and triplets in the LH. I've practised each hand separately but when I combine both, my right is somehow influenced by the rhythm of the left, and I end up playing the quavers like a crotchet and quaver in 6/8 time. Can any one suggest a practice method that might help?

What helped me was to learn scales with each hand playing evenly but in different values (say, two against three). Practicing scales like this lets your hands become independent, and it acclimatizes your ear to the offbeats. This is just my experience though, there may be  a more correct answer.

ok well when i was learning triplets against quavers for the first time my teacher made me tap the beats of out my hands on my lap or whatever so you'll have your left hand tapping the triplets and right hand tapping the quavers so it'll be like

R          R         R          R    (this is your right hand)
L       L       L    L       L       L (this is your left hand)

does that make sense? and just tap it over and over again and then just try and think of that rhythm when you're playing it together, always emphasise the first beat when they come together, including when practicing HS so then when you put them together then the accents should go together and that makes it easier.
