To Urtext or not to Urtext?

I am starting on my way to completing all 32 of the Beethoven Sonatas. Would you suggest I buy the Urtext editions ($50.00 each, 2 volumes) or stick with my Dover Editions ($15.00 each, 2 volumes). What makes Urtext better? (I remember there was a topic about this before, but I couldn't find it). Are the urtext editions good investments?

well i have Urtext cos my teacher praises them she thinks they're brilliant so i'm thinking (or at least hoping) that they'd be worth your money. and then you can show off that you have them and keep them forever until they fall apart

Urtext editions of Beethoven should be consulted only with expert advice.  (This is in the book The Pianist's Problems by William S. Newman.)  It is my understanding that the Dover editions of Beethoven are very good.

Goldenweiser is actually the best edition for beethoven sonatas but is terribly hard ot find.  If you cant find it go with the urtext.  thats what i have.
